Tuesdays with Morris
Yesterday, I was reading 2 Corinthians 3...And, verse 5 really stuck out to me. In the NIV Bible it reads like this, "Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God." Yesterday, I read from the NLT Bible and it words this passage on the thought that apart from God, we can do nothing...that our only success and power comes from Him.
In a world that strives for excellence in everything, this verse is a good reminder that our excellence has less to do with us and more to do with Him. Are we competent because of our own doing or because of God? Is our success our own doing or does it come from Him?
It's easy to say, "Well, I did this. Sure, God is great and has given me many gifts. But, all this success was a direct result of me." Sometimes it's hard to admit that apart from Him, we are nothing. We deceive ourselves when we claim power and success on our own. And, if our power and success came void of God...is it good power and good success?
Well, I'd encourage you to read 2 Corinthians 3. The chapter ends telling us that we are to be like mirrors that reflect the glory of the Lord. My prayer is that we all will recognize our position before the Lord. My prayer is that we will all come to the place where in all things we can reflect the glory of the Lord so that all will come to know Him.
